This campground is right along a major road that runs through Harrison, and half of the campsites, although there is a hill in between seem like they're right off the road. Other than that, the campsites are pretty good sized, and the bathrooms were well maintained and the cleaning staff was GREAT! One half of the campground has sites that are more sunny, the other half is mostly shaded. The beach was impeccable.

Those are all the good things...the reason this campground got the stars that it did. Now for the reasons we wouldn't ever consider going back. Our coolers (and their contents) were stolen the last night of our stay, and we weren't the only family to have this happen. The next morning, the ranger let us know that they had been having trouble with people they believed were from the local community coming into the park and stealing things.

When I asked why they weren't notifying people of this problem when they drove on, I was told that there was a sign at the entrance to the campground stating that campers should secure all their belongings. My problem with this is that that sign is common to every state park campground...and I've NEVER had anything stolen. If there is a known problem --- the staff should have said something or posted a signs to that effect. At the very least they should be requesting local police or more rangers to monitor the campground at night.

The last problem was the local drag race they scheduled the holiday weekend we were there - that ran on the road the campsites were on... so instead of nice and quiet weekend - we got to listen to screeching cars and revving engines all weekend.
