We group camped with 10 families and had a wonderful time.  Being a state park you will need to buy either a daily permit or annual pass.

Our family of 4 was assigned lot no. 199.  We pretty much had the area south of the bathroom.  Our lot was directly across from the bathroom which is good for little kids who always need to go but also bad for all the foot traffic through your campsite (from other campers).  The bathroom had showers which were old but OK.  (Showers were free--did not need the roll of quarters).  The other side of the campground had new bathrooms/showers.  The showers were very nice and even had two handicapped rooms that had hand held shower heads.  Again a very good thing for sandy children.

The lot was level although the surrounding lots had some 3-4' hills.  Our site was fairly shady.  The playground was nice as were the trails.  The beach is across the street.  Kids 6+ would be able to hoof it but if you have all the beach stuff and/or younger ones, drive across.  The beach is very nice with several volleyball nets.  The beach is very wide and the water is  shallow for quite some distance.  It is mainly sandy but then there are patches of rocks (wear beach socks).  Bring an umbrella if you want some shade.  A nice thing about all the sites having electricity is to bring a fan.  You will sleep much better.

The fire pits were nice as they were in a raised container.  They had potable water near the bathrooms.  They did not have dishwashing stations so make sure you bring dishpans. The campgrounds had lots of trees which was nice to setting up drying lines.  However it never seems like you have enough so I'd recommend bringing a drying rack as well.

We did not really explore the town but there is an IGA grocery store about 5 miles away.

We canoed at Tip-Of-The-Thumb canoe outfitters 10 miles away towards Port Austin.  It was very easy for out group to canoe.  The Pinnebog River was Ok to dunk your foot in but I would not go swimming in it.  You never were able to see the bottom (as opposed to canoeing the Rifle or AuSable rivers).  The beach at the midway point, however, completely made up for the river.  It was just beautiful.  Water was very clear and the children had fun jumping the waves.  If we do it again, I'd spend more time at that beach.

The trails offered about 4 miles of nice soft paths.  If you like to walk/run, you can easily do so along M-25 as it has wide shoulders.  After my morning run, I went right to the lake and cooled off to a glorious sunrise.

If your kids like to bike the roads are paved.
Happy Camping
