Park Information: 23 sites for
tent and small trailer use, 2 of which can accommodate 40-ft trailer/vehicle.
Group camping area designed for horseback riders along Michigan's Shore-to-Shore
Riding/Hiking Trail. Separate camping area for non-horse users. Rustic
campground includes vault toilets and potable water from well hand pump. Horse
group sites available by permit from State Forest Campground Manager
(231-824-3591).
- Designated Watchable Wildlife Site
The Manistee River area offers excellent wildlife viewing year round. Ducks,
geese, eagles, ospreys, raccoons, deer, turkey, and river otters can all be
observed here. Canoeing provides good viewing opportunity.
- Fishing
Hopkins Creek (on site): Trout. Manistee River
(2 miles North): Walleye, Brown/Rainbow Trout, and
Suckers.
- Hiking
North Country Trail (3 miles North): This national route from North
Dakota to New York includes over 1500 miles of varied terrain through Michigan.
- Boating Access Site/Launch - Access for boating and fishing.
Manistee River has carry-in access at Lucas Rd
(4 miles North) and from
Old US-131 State Forest Campground (10 miles West).
- Equestrian
Direct access to segment of the 355-mile Shore-to-Shore Riding/Hiking Trail.
- Other
North Missaukee (10 miles West): 73 miles of motorcycle trail and 37
miles of full-sized vehicle ORV route.
