miles West of Kalkaska via Island Lake Road and Campground Road.

Park Information:
Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No
reservations. There are 36 sites for tent and small
trailer use including some walk-in sites for hikers. Located adjacent Sand Lakes
Quiet Area, ideal for nature observation, hiking, and camping. Rustic campground
includes vault toilets and potable water from well hand pump.
- Designated Watchable Wildlife Site
Sand Lakes Quiet Area contains five marl lakes surrounded by rolling hills of
oak-pine forest and offers opportunities for viewing deer, turkey, squirrel, and
other woodland wildlife. Some lakes are stocked with test populations of hybrid
fish. Motorized vehicles prohibited.

Guernsey Lake (on site): Bass, Bluegill, and Trout.
Island Lake (2 miles NE): Bluegill and Bass. Boardman River (7 miles SW): Brown Trout.
- Hiking
Sand Lakes Quiet Area (access on site): 10+ miles of flat to very hilly terrain. Muncie Lake (7 miles SW): 11.5 miles. Hike, mountain bike and cross-country ski. Vasa (6 miles West): 16.7 miles. Hike, mountain bike, and cross-country ski.

Sand Lakes Quiet Area (access on site): 10+ miles of flat to very hilly terrain.
- Boating Access Site/Launch - Access for boating and fishing.
Guernsey Lake (on site): Ramp access. Boardman River (5 miles SW): Carry-in access at Forks State Forest Campground.
- Other
Grand Traverse (4 miles SW): 66 miles of motorcycle trail only and 5 miles of
full-sized vehicle ORV route. Leetsville (12 miles NE): 25 miles of cycle/ATV
trail.
