Welcome to Chippewa County
|
Chippewa County provides a
terrific backdrop for both natural and man-made wonders. Bordered by
northern Lake Huron to the south, the mighty St. Mary's River - east, to the
north - Lake Superior, and on the west - the Hiawatha National Forest.
These powerful borders provide the many sights to see and things to do.
At the northernmost tip of the county is Whitefish Point along the infamous
Shipwreck coast. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is located here and chronicles
the many wrecks, including the Edmund Fitzgerald, that went down in these
waters. Spring and fall, visitors can also witness massive migrations of
hawks, waterfowl and shorebirds from the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory
co-located here.
Ten miles south of "The Point" is Paradise. Located 15
miles west is Tahquamenon Falls. Made famous in the Longfellow's epic, The
Song of Hiawatha, these falls are simply breathtaking.
