Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No
reservations. There are 13 sites for tent or small
trailer use, 5 of which are designated for canoe-access only. Located on the
main branch of the Au Sable River. Universally accessible picnic tables. Rustic
campground includes vault toilets and potable water from well hand pump.
Designated Watchable Wildlife Site Au Sable River offers a good chance of seeing bald eagles all seasons, deer and
wild turkey are plentiful, excellent fishing.
Fishing Au Sable River (on site) and Kneff Lake (8 miles SE): Brown/Brook/Rainbow Trout. Lake Margrethe (10 miles SW): Walleye, Pike, Perch, Smallmouth Bass.
Canoeing Campground accessible by water from the Au Sable River. Closest canoe rental in
Grayling (7 miles West).
Hiking Mason Tract (13 miles SE): 11.5 miles of slightly hilly terrain. Hike,
cross-country ski. Closed to bicycling due to erosion and safety concerns.
Other Frederic Loop Trail (8 miles West): 29 miles of cycle/ATV trail and 9 miles of
full-sized vehicle route.
